What to do if it rains!
It is possible the rain could fall on your visit and if so there are a variety
of places to visit of interest. You could choose a day like this to visit any
one of the 7 working distilleries – Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain,
Caol Ila, Lagavulin or Laphroaig. All are located on the shore side in spectacular
surroundings. Tours can be arranged (check web links for details or check literature
in house) and be sure to have a wee dram!
You
could also choose to visit the Round Church in Bowmore or go for a swim
at the Mactaggart Leisure Centre. A trip to Islay House Square in Bridgend
hosts a variety of interest. The Islay Ales Brewery, The Islay Woollen
Mill and Elizabeth Sykes Batiks are all located here.
A rainy day could also see you staying put in Port Charlotte and visiting the
excellent Wildlife Information Centre (great for the kids) and/or the museum
of Islay Life followed by a bar lunch in the Port Charlotte Hotel. You may
even wish to spend the rest of the afternoon in the bar sampling the local
malts!
